Chances are we all know someone who’s caring for a loved one, quietly & often without any support or a break.

Today, let’s show up for these #UnpaidCarers - mothers, fathers, siblings, spouses, grandparents - & let them know they’re not alone & that their care matters 💜🧡

‘Since being a carer myself, and subsequently writing a book about carers’ experiences, I have developed a keen sense for when a policymaker, politician or simply a member of the public has failed to understand the contribution of carers.’
@emilykenway.bsky.social echoes my own experience.

🏦 Today’s announcement of unchanged interest rates is a blow to everyone struggling with the living standards squeeze.

Drastic cuts to PIP will affect as many as 1 million disabled and ill people, pushing them into severe hardship, worsening physical and mental health, and isolation. There is no credible argument for pulling help from people shouldering the high costs of disability. Cruelty dressed up as reform.

PIP helps with things like personal care, mobility aids, higher heating bills and transport.

Misinformation about the role of PIP is damaging, and false narratives are fuelling discrimination and stigma. 2/

We pick on the vulnerable to make £5bn of savings, which in the grand scheme of things is pittance . The NHS costs £1bn for 2.4 days to run.

This book by @emilykenway.bsky.social was one of the best I’ve read all year and encouraged me to have some hard conversations with my ageing parents before it’s too late. Profoundly grateful I picked it up. It’s a hard read but a very, very necessary one and one I highly recommend to all.

Is it fair for unpaid care providing hoist transfer, peg feed, meds etc be expected to do regular chest physio. Another layer of responsibility on top. Oh and find time for doing paid work as well.
