@jagbsn.bsky.social I know you can’t read this, but I heard the news this morning that you died yesterday and I am so sad. I have been so distracted this summer by the medical crises in my own family, and I should have followed my instinct to reach out in a more personal way.

My grandmother loved Louis Armstrong and her nickname for me was “Dolly”, and I cannot HEAR ‘Hello Dolly’ without crying.

I can’t even remember which song specifically, but I hung out on an irc channel called #punk (on the dalnet server, although I originally started out on efnet), and users would rip CDs and send them around. So probs Bad Religion or something goofy. This was circa 1996-7, a little before Napster.

1/ My 11 year old had a weird dark mole pop up on the side of his toe suddenly in 2020. During peak covid I had a voice call with the doctor who temporarily replaced our doctor, who on examining photos thought it was no big deal but to monitor…

I have to wonder if Gov. Hot Wheels was inspired by The Righteous Gemstones b/c a few days before that hit the timeline Jesse (Danny McBride) calls BJ (Tim Baltz) “Hot weels” in s04e03.

I actually do think AI can be used responsibly by artists. I don’t love it, but for eg generating references for your original paintings is fine I think. I try not to be alarmist abt it even though I feel revulsion and fear. BUT

I used my ⚡️laser⚡️ machine to make some rubber stamps from my lil drawings the other day. Super cool and I think with some tweaks to my designs (no thin lines!!!) I will make these to sell eventually. Already designing a larger format Ex Libris/bookplate stamp.

If you care about women’s day, and mothers, how about working to secure a future where we never have to re-enact conscription. My number one concern as a woman and a mother is my child living and thriving to the natural conclusion of his life.

Sometimes I’m stuck on this rather juvenile frustration and sense of unfairness that a vile, despotic human being like Trump gets to be a wealthy world leader, while my same-aged father gets to slowly lose his dignity, mind and life savings to dementia before he had a chance to leave a legacy.

Everyone talking about the tariffs, not seeing many talk about this…

Niche pedantic complaint: I’ve been using Holbein Acryla Gouache for over 20 years and in the last ~10 years it has become increasingly popular with content creator artists on social media.

I know there was lots of leftist chatter about it, but the way we overall glossed over Elon’s Sieg Heil was crazy. We know Hitler is evil for what he did the holocaust, but I don’t think we’ve reckoned with how he’s responsible for a lot of inter-generational trauma in military families.

The insane amount of Botox the character who plays Helly got between seasons 1&2 of Severance is so distracting

We all know what Trump’s hair looks like when the wind has a go at it. But I wonder if that ~DaRk GoThIc MaGa~ hat would stay on or fall off.

Just saying… this is one of many reasons why it’s good to keep your ~maiden~ name.
It's not complicated. They're just trying to stop women from being able to vote.

And it’s still fucking winter here. If I could grow flowers and read in the sunshine I think I’d be like 20% less nihilistic.

I never knew Grimes, but she went to high school with people I was friends with in my 20s in Vancouver and came up out of an adjacent social scene. It’s just insane to think that’s her kid in the Oval Office, alongside his dad, and Donald Trump; two of the worst human beings currently alive.

In Silicon Valley, the TV series, the character inspired by Peter Thiel tragically passed away. Would that it were.

Is my local curling club sending a message about the tarrifs?
February 11, 2025 at 6:32 PM
lol idk how the rest of you are doing but I am experiencing levels of existential dread on a level I didn’t think possible. Every few days I think I’ve found the resolve to tolerate existence & then the bottom drops out again. It’s waves of nausea. It’s insomnia, it’s a flat feeling of hopelessness

@territoryoflight.bsky.social put me on to the em dash years ago and I don’t want to have to give them up ☹️
Just saw a post where someone said that use of em dashes (—) was a giveaway that you're using AI for writing. Uh, no. It could just mean you like to use em dashes.

I keep the upstairs of my house very tidy and pretty clean, but is it so bad that I treat my unfinished basement like a shed and only clean if there’s a biohazard?
