As a volunteer leader with a similar organisation, the trustees don’t get paid to sit on the board but they have jobs. Good ones too, some of them. And what is the point of Guiding as a youth movement with a legacy since 1910 if we don’t stand up for something…(1)

Thank you to @bandherbooks.bsky.social for the lovely card & stickers that arrived in the post today!

My decision to focus on romance books worked out nicely for me in July because reading a genre I enjoy gave me the mental fortitude more or less for *gestures vaguely* all this.

It was a good book reading month despite all that was going on. So many people expecting follow through on plans and reports even though I had books on the go. The audacity etc

I do actually. I keep the 2 notebooks with my dictionaries

The @kennysbookshop.bsky.social edition of EAT THE ONES YOU LOVE by @griffski.bsky.social arrived today & I’m looking forward to reading it. Here the book is being endorsed by La Dora who while not a plant, is also prone to munching on things - mostly blankets & sometimes socks…

My dog Dora reacts with gusto to dogs on the lead while out walking. Sometimes she takes offence when someone is wearing a high vis. She thinks pigeons should fuck right off. But when she comes to any weekend meet up with my Girl Guides like today when we did pre camp prep? She is A++ in behaviour

Dora at the dog park on Monday (yesterday).

This is a lot of what’s wrong today, people demanding sympathy & empathy for certain groups while leaving marginalised groups to fend for themselves. Oh boo hoo now you don’t like your car the way lots of others haven’t for years. Take your goddamn lumps & deal with it.

Sometimes you just want to have pretty things nearby and I do love tulips and my spring themed ornaments. I like the change the theme on the sideboard monthly if I can. One lesson you learn as an only child is you gotta make your own fun and fuck the haters!

BRB off to buy a bell because you never know what kind of loo-lah you’ll encounter talking shite these days.

This is the kind of wheel taking that is needed in so many quarters at the moment and they better f-ing step up!

Oscar nominations today at 1.30GMT. Fingers crossed for La Dora in her starring role in DIVA: THE BUBBLES ARE NOT ENOUGH, YOU NEED TO ALSO GIVE ME YOUR GRUB.

For She is Wrath by Emily Varga is about a young woman who’s betrayed & sent to prison for a crime she didn’t commit & seeks revenge with help of another woman & djinn magic. It asks if you go all out for vengeance then what’s left of you afterwards & is a great action story. Very engrossing.

A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams is such a lovely romantic story that celebrates life love & in a way even death. I cried at the end.
I’m so glad I paid heed to book bloggers & reviewers who kept talking about it & said how good it was.

One of my presents this year is a tripod for smartphone picture taking so I look forward to chasing La Dora around the garden this Christmas, tripod in hand, and hiding treats in my hair & pockets in my continuing quest to get a proper photo of her & maybe the 2 of us! 🤞A Xmas miracle???

My library reserves of Where the Library Hides by Isabel Ibañez and Running Close to the Wind by Alexandra Rowland came in & they have such pretty covers. When the librarian checked them out she said “ooh brand new books!” …

My @ciaraioch.bsky.social art prints arrived and honestly photos don’t do them justice. Looking forward to having in depth conversations with all and sundry about where to put them to show them off to their best. I’m sure I will be very well received! 👍

Latest library read: Best Hex Ever by Nadia El-Fassi. I’ve heard good things about this one & when it comes to good books, I’m so easily influenced. #romancelandia

Also libraries are amazing & I ❤️ how the Irish public library system is so linked and I can get a book from anywhere in the country

I took part in a writing workshop last May in Galway City Museum & the Ed officer at the museum organised publication of the booklet containing work from those sessions. We’d be told the background & history of an object in the museum each week & be guided to write a story or poem inspired by it

I know we don’t like to post things from That Other Place generally but this was too good to pass up.

The count continues countrywide! #GE24
