A waking thought: Were someone to tell me: "I don't see what all this church stuff is about," I would reply: "Perhaps that is because you don't see who you are." Tell me who you are and will tell what this church stuff should mean to you." If I remember right that is how always began my cathectic.

If I'd preached 1st Christmas, John 1.1f
I would've begun “Though the Word you were created;
by the Word you were redeemed; in the Word you have communion. With your ‘Amen’ the word, you are meant to be, began in you. Thus, I my charge to you: Go out a give your word.

Because of the season our house is full of people, shepherds and wise men, and the populous of a Victorian street. Could be nostalgia but I think better a wish that our street might be full of people.

M. Thein Novel The Book of Records is fill of "jokes" that makes one laugh and cry. In the context of H. Arendt's escape: "A German stand before to doors. The first door reads Entrance to the Kingdom of God. The second door reads Lecture on the Kingdom of God. Which does he choose?" Too painful!

Puzzled, M. Thein’s “The Book of Records” is not among the most talked about book of 2025. The migrant nature of life and the issue of memory form the Chinese experience is joined that of Baruch Spinoza and Hannah Arndt. Relevant, but even more so as part 2 unites it with migration in cyberspace.

I am not sure what I expected when I joined Bluesky but am surprised to find myself in the company of Canadians, Anglicans, Medievalist, and ancient manuscript specialist. And oh, my fellow alumnus Robert Reich who I have been follow for years. Nice.

Oh no! Donald did it. The prestigious school The Siebel Institute of Technology, operating since 1868, will relocate in January to a building on Ste-Catherine Street East. Known worldwide for teaching the craft of brewing beer, moves due to the restrains on international students. Thanks Canada!

Starting a 2nd read of Madeline Thien "The Book of Records." p. 15, read "Reza who played the santur, . . . could strike with such speed and beauty, the music created worlds more real than the ground itself." and thought woe I'm reading too fast.

Just read: Karin Desai, The Loneliness of Sonai and Sunny,685, “If she (Sonia) continued to write multiple narratives until the truth of something she wrote became apparent. . . . wouldn’t every story become equivalent to every other story? If the center did not hold, maybe it should not hold.

Netflix's "Secret City," Australian TV, is a deep state conspiracy theory. It has an anti-war message, with the twist that the US and its military are the bad actors! Ends with "Eisenhower's industrial military complex" speech. More fake news? How did this get past the anti-woke people.

The elder thought this morning that empathy is not a choice. It is foundational to thinking as primal thinking arises from a sense of the other. In order to parse or throttle empathy, one has to unthink, which cannot be done without doing violence to oneself

I highly recommend Stephanie Rumpza, Phenomenology of the Icon. The frame work of phenomenology, Jean-Luc Marion & Jean-Yves Lacoste, opens Byzantine Icons to the world of art and experience and leads the world of art and experience to prayer. Would love to open a dialogue!
