I agree with nearly all of this (except the certainty that the pipeline will never be built: it's NOT impossible). This is the leadership we need: someone unafraid to tell the truth. The era of fossil fuels is rapidly drawing to a close & we need a rational, just transition to a low-carbon future.
Carney’s deal with Danielle Smith is the sellout of the century: scrapping climate legislation for a pipeline that will never be built.

We need powerlines, not pipelines. Our path is through climate leadership & building good jobs in the clean economy.

He is the best of politics. 🙏

As a kid I lived on the beach opposite this👇 oil terminal. Oil tanker proponents claim they've never spilled on the BC coast. Maybe not, but our beach was fouled with oil; it oozed from the sand; the clams were inedible; and oil-soaked birds washed up too. #BanPipelines

Some B.C. Liberal MPs concerned about prospect of a new oil pipeline: sources | CBC News
With Prime Minister Mark Carney poised to sign a "grand bargain" with Alberta later this week, some B.C. Liberal MPs are raising concerns about Ottawa possibly giving the greenlight to a new oil pipel...

Trudeau-era environment minister Steven Guilbeault has published a resignation letter detailing the reasons for his departure from Carney's cabinet.

He directly cites today's MOU:

This govt will NOT survive another confidence vote. Carney might be a fine banker but he's a terrible, duplicitous politician.
Now the question is whether Avi Lewis can finish the job Jack Layton started: replacing the Liberals on the political landscape.🇨🇦

1/ Mark Carney has betrayed all of us by making a pipeline pact with Danielle Smith. A real nation-building project would expand the renewable energy of the future while creating thousands of jobs - powerlines not pipelines.

"Though the deal is between Ottawa and Alberta, it also stresses that British Columbia will be brought to the table."

Just like the Munich Agreement where Germany, Britain & Italy decided how to carve up Czechoslovakia without the Czechs at the table.

2. Pipeline MOU also:
- allows oil sands companies to use captured carbon to extract more oil (enhanced oil recovery), which previously wasn't allowed
- promotes expensive nuclear (i.e. keep using natural gas for 15 years) rather than cheaper, available-now wind and solar

BREAKING: Alberta gets its way in deal with Ottawa
A newly signed memorandum of understanding gives Alberta almost its entire list of demands, from the removal of regulations to the fast-tracking of a pipeline.

Carney has fired up a gas guzzling 426-hemi 1970 Dodge Charger, put it in full reverse & taken us back to the 20th century. Even Pierre Poilievre couldn't have done worse on climate policy. Canada is now a fully-fledged petrostate & climate pariah thanks to him. #ClimateQuisling. #ClimateAction

Carney is a #ClimateQuisling.
For those saying it doesn't matter because a new oil pipeline is impossible, just stop. It's possible.
What's worse, Carney justifies it with the worst form of greenwashing: carbon capture to produce 'decarbonized oil.' What utter BS.
More massive subsidies for Big Oil.

Manitoba's plan to build a $3 billion methane power plant is BANANAS. More expensive than Firm Renewables (wind/solar & storage) & it leaves consumers vulnerable to skyrocketing gas prices especially as we export more LNG driving up prices. Just plain dumb. #MbPoli

Those who think a new oil pipeline to the BC coast is impossible & that Carney suckered Smith, think again. BC opposition? The Horgan NDP govt opposed expanding Trans Mountain on an existing corridor. They failed. The route of a new north coast oil pipeline? The Coastal GasLink corridor. Hello🛢️🛢️🛢️

By paving the way for pipelines to the BC coast, Carney assures: 1. the demise of the Liberals; 2. a majority Poilievre govt (shudder); and 3. breathes new life into a moribund NDP. If Avi Lewis catches fire we could see a repeat of 2011 election. #NoPipelines
