Fellow ornithologists: now that Trump has clearly begun his lame duck phase after last night's election results, the question is this: what species of duck does he most resemble and why? I'll start. The American Wigeon aka the Baldpate. I think the why is self-evident. #Birds #LameDuck 🪶

Universities that were counting on international students to balance their budgets after years of cuts to provincial funding are hooped. Big cuts are coming in temporary residents that include students.

Environment and Climate Change Canada is taking a big immediate hit in Carney's budget, unlike other departments where the cuts are phased in. And they are getting the max 15% cut when the dust settles. Hard numbers speak louder than words of aspirational promises. #Budget2025

Carney is 'modernizing' science funding by cutting it 2%.

we won't have pilots to fly them. The only viable option is to downsize the F-35 order from the current 88 (to maybe 32-48 planes) & consider a second platform, maybe Gripens. My neighbour, a former Snowbird pilot, thinks Eurofighters are the better option.

Seems like migration is a bit late this year - perhaps the warm fall weather? The purple finches arrived in numbers at Lake Manitoba this week. #Birds 🪶

Am I the only one with fingers crossed that Greta Thunberg wins the Nobel Peace Prize this year for her exemplary work on the climate emergency? That it would piss off the Mango Mussolini and repudiate his 'climate change con job' would just be the cherry on top. #NobelPeacePrize #ClimateAction

That seems like quite the sacrifice the President is willing to make to get his portrait on a coin. Admirable.

The top of this cottonwood caught my eye in the dawn light. Fascinating fall colours.

Well it's part of the NDP affordable energy plan and they have announced funding for 50+ charging stations. And of course, we all know how committed Mr. Kinew is to renewable energy. To be fair, they did follow through on the EV rebates. Until the full network is in place, plug-in hybrids work well.

The moon over Lake Manitoba this morning. Truth be told, I'm a little worried about it - looks like it's melting. Have to check tonight to see if it's okay.
