Storm Benjamin saw the collapse of the walnut tree.
I hadn't seen any leaves on it for at least a year and the incredibly small size of the root plate shows that it was completely dead.

I'm very pleased to announce that I'll be giving a short talk and advice at this FREE event held at Yr Ardd in Llandysul. Hope to see you there!

I was surprised by this, but maybe it's a vegan cat?

One of the neighbours cats hunting the rats getting obstructed by a badger!

I think this shows a youngster from this year following its mother. There's certainly a size difference between them.

The rat on the far left and the one nearest the top of the screen only have one eye reflecting the infra-red of the camera. The one on the left is missing the glow in it's right eye and the other, when chased and reappearing, shows its left side and lack of eye glow to the camera.

For about ten minutes last night there were three badgers feeding together. Then two gradually wandered off, leaving one snuffling about on its own for another 20 minutes. Lovely peanuts!

Most of the time badgers and rats seem to ignore each other, but sometimes they get too close for comfort.

This is a behaviour I've seen sheep do - sit down to eat if there's enough in reach. Why stand if you don't have to!

Kitty didn't want to miss out getting on camera last night.

Another clip from last night was when a fox passed through at 1.10am.

I've now got a trail camera and it was out for the first time last night and captured some nice images.
There were individual badgers for some of the time and two together for a short while.

The Kilmarnock willow may not look like much after I gave it the pruning it needed, but it still gives some promise of what may come in future years when it grows back. 🌱

It was an unfavourable day by the biodynamic calendar today due to the Lunar eclipse. When the influence is negative, I look to do jobs where things won't benefit.
So I had a go at this area of bramble that had encroached across what was once a path - and look, there's a wood shelter under there!

A bit more sorting out done this weekend - the Choisya and both roses on the arch.
Now more light is getting to both I'm hoping for similar as with the willow, that fresh buds will break and improve the current situation.🌱

I usually have at least one daffodil in flower for Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant but it's not usually a week before.
These are most appropriate as well because they are Narcissus obvallaris, also known as the 'Tenby daffodil'.🌱

I took advantage of today's break between storms to sort out the Kilmarnock willow, which is around 30 years old.

Not much live material left, but green buds seen ready to break. I'll give it a good mulch this year and hopefully it will put on decent growth now that light can get to those buds.

It's really good to see that bullfinch numbers increased last year.

For many years I've only been aware of one or two pairs at most, so to see this many males is very encouraging. Hopefully there are also sufficient females and they'll have a another good breeding season this year.

I've done a couple of small sections of dead hedge, plus a little bit of hedge pruning in the last couple of days.

They are essential brash piles that can be more upright and use less horizontal space as they're held up between posts.

Very satisfying work!
