I find myself thinking once again of this quote from Richard Rorty
Hello fellow earthling
It’s so bizarre that he went from giving daily advice to Andrew Cuomo for months in the mayor’s race to this.

Rogers Smith was my thesis advisor in college. A kind and decent man without a xenophobic bone in his body. But the story of how his work became fodder for White supremacists is an object lesson in how galaxy brain thinking has consequences.

The Liberal Scholars Who Influenced Trump’s Attack on Birthright Citizenship
The President’s executive order took inspiration from an esoteric legal argument from 1985, by two Yale professors. They have some regrets.

Their plan is to start a war with Venezuela as a pretext to justify Trump's sweeping invocation of emergency powers here in the U.S.
Why did the US move 10,000 troops toward Venezuela plus ships & 5000 sailors?
Who is in charge? What is their plan?

Argentina President Javier Milei doing the “Trump dance” at Mar-a-Lago after getting an $40 billion bailout.

Meanwhile, Trump won’t renew subsides for American healthcare.

Curious if Greg sees any connection between a broader war with Venezuela and using the military here in the US pursuant to the Insurrection and Alien Enemies Acts
Hair-raising stuff from @profsaunders.bsky.social about the dangers of Trump waging a broader war on Venezuela, with this nice bit of understatement:

"Today’s White House has a highly volatile decision-making apparatus."

Trump may strike Venezuela. His team makes that very risky.
Take a close look at who is advising the president on U.S. policy.

"Do you like beer, counselor???"
Brett Kavanaugh's behavior during today's second oral arguments has been incredibly obnoxious and rude. He is so eager to kill a service member's lawsuit against a negligent government contractor that he keeps interrupting other justices, raising his voice, and getting emotional. Weird and erratic.

See no evil, hear no evil, Speaker evil
RAJU: Last week you were very critical of Biden's use of the autopen. But Trump admitted on 60 Minutes to not knowing he pardoned a crypto billionaire who pleaded guilty to money laundering. Does that also concern you?

MIKE JOHNSON: I don't know anything about that. I didn't see it. I'm not sure.

I think back often to a conversation I had about 15 years ago with my cousin about the death of expertise. She argued it was bad but I disagreed.

The years since have been one long proof that I was wrong and Cousin Julia was right.
Critics? Experts.

Federal law requires comprehensive asbestos inspection, notification, and abatement before any demolition," wrote the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) last week. "No publicly available information demonstrates that these statutory obligations have been fulfilled."
Critics question whether White House, contractors 'cut corners' on asbestos safety in East Wing demolition
Critics are questioning if the demolition of the White House East Wing adhered to federal health and safety standards, including those governing the handling of asbestos.

This is why he's inciting war with Venezuela. He's going to claim gangs like Tren de Aragua justify using the military here in the US under the Insurrection and Alien Enemies Acts.
That's right, plus I think the regular military itself has to have statutory authorization for the initial deployment
