Second, no one is “stuck” in the police department like they are stuck in the USSR with limited means to migrate, etc. It’s a ridiculous analogy and you’re making the classic mistake of running cover and excusing people for their bad choices/abuses.

They exist to protect capital and to protect the whites against people darker than them only. Any criticism of the police is met with derision as if the person is too much of a simpleton to understand “how the world really works.” Meanwhile the cops leave corpses in their path every day.

If you want to split hairs then saying not ALL cops get off on abuse of power is like saying not ALL nazis got off on torturing and murdering Jews. But that is what the system was designed to do. If you want to talk reform then the first thing to do is abolish qualified immunity.

I see the racist, fascist system on display. It is not a system that can be reformed because it relies on power hungry abusers to join and cover for their co-workers. Any “good” cop that speaks out against abuses gets ostracized.

The Wire is the GOAT show but it is fiction. In reality David Simon loves cops. He’s buds with them and goes to drink with them at cop bars when they retire. He is the embodiment of the “only a few bad apples” mindset and thinks a fascist, racist system can be reformed.
