Exploring Banbury & surrounding areas. Finding out the where, what, who, & how of this historic market town in North Oxfordshire.
Nice crowd for this early at the Banbury Music Mix. Just getting started - plenty of time to come down and enjoy the music.

Spent yesterday at the Avon Dassett Soapbox Derby with @modparlphotos.bsky.social who was doing the event photography. His feed will no doubt feature some of those pics so check them out. I did some snapping too but much less polished 😁 #avondassetsoapboxderby

@thebanburian.bsky.social and I grabbed lunch #lock29.banbury today from the newly-opened Sushime!

The Chicken Teriyaki Poke Bowl tasted every bit as good as it looked. A welcome new addition to Banbury's food scene!

A lovely evening for the #Banbury Car & Bike Meet tonight...

So, what bit of #Banbury for #photographymonth today?

We head to the town centre and back in time to the Rallye Monte Carlo Historique 2020.

11 days into #PhotographyMonth and we continue with another bit of #Banbury. Today it's books! Specifically, books via Banbury's Phone-box Library on South Bar, outside St John’s Church.

Happy #WindmillDay to one our favourite 'long walk in the fresh air' destinations, the #Bodicote Windmill. One of the loveliest walks in the area. And when you consider the abundance of lovely walks we have on the doorstep, that's saying something.

Another bit of #Banbury for #photographymonth

It's bikes for today's bit of #Banbury for #photographymonth - and while I enjoy a good bike ride as much as anyone else, there is no way I could manage the amazing jumps, spins and flips that some of the riders at the Spiceball Park ramps perform. Always impressive.

Today's bit of #Banbury for #photographymonth is a two for one of sorts.

'The Dancers' statue is iconic Banbury on its own but in context alongside The Mill Arts Centre is double the banbury-ish-ness.

Today's bit of #Banbury for #PhotographyMonth is the iconic, historic, local business & landmark - Tooley's Boatyard. When I say iconic & historic, I mean it's "one of the oldest working dry docks on the Inland Waterways in continuous use since 1778."

As May is Photography Month, I've looked thru photos I've taken of #Banbury over time to share some of my favourites over the course of the month

I start with the elevated path in Banbury Country Park.

Why not share YOUR favourite pictures of Banbury and let's give #PhotographyMonth a local spin!

Everyone knows the nursery rhyme, "Ride a Cock Horse, to Banbury Cross, to see a Fine Lady upon a white horse", but there's massess of history to the little piece of doggerel.

@thebanburian.bsky.social breaks down some of the history here: thebanburian.com/whos-riding-...
Who’s Riding to Which Cross? - The Banburian
Most people agree “Banbury Cross” refers to the High Cross as it was the most centrally located but no one is sure - and there are lots of questions.

The 20th anniversary of our Fine Lady statue feels like a good for this from the blog archives.

"She’s got flowers in her hair and – yes, indeed, bells on her toes. The observant visitor will also notice that just under the horse’s hoof, there sits a frog..."

Had the day off yesterday we took ourselves off for a bimble around Oxford. The Radcliffe Camera was looking positively resplendent in the late morning light.

One of the great delights of living in Banbury is how many fantastic days out are practically on the doorstep.

Next Sunday (March 30th) is Take A Walk In the Park Day.

One thing I enjoy most about Banbury is the number of parks around town. Banbury Country Park is probably my fave. I love how it links to other green spaces like the Grimsbury nature reserve & canal walks.

What's your favourite local park?
