Man, rough week for music fans. First Sly and now Brian? I can't help but find it sad that some of these musical giants are leaving. I guess this is what happens in your 50s? People you admired growing up start to get quite old and then die?

I'm sure I'm not the first to clock this but I've been noticing lately how often white people moving to a different country are called "ex-pats" which is fun! But if you're not white and moving to a predominantly white/western country, you are called an "immigrant". Double standards are fun eh?

Wow. This is super promising. Science eh? I like it.
THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Stanford University have developed a dual-antibody treatment that remains effective against ALL SARS-CoV-2 variants by targeting a less-mutable part of the virus. This breakthrough could lead to longer-lasting therapies that OUTPACE viral evolution. 🧪🧵⬇️

Thinking about DOGE and all its bullshit made me recall this very funny video from a simpler time. At times, it's like Elon interviewing his DOGE "staff" and other times, it's like the constant vacillating between firing and re-hiring!

I guess this is what happens when you elect a painfully stupid reality tv “star”. You get deplorable behavior that he thinks will be “good for the ratings”?

Friends, No Name‘s book club has shared that they are struggling a bit financially, having lost a lot of supporters on Patreon. If you do have some extra $$, please consider supporting this very cool work. I know money’s tight these days; this is one that I am happy I can support.

This makes me think of that axiom that people get “more conservative” as they get older while my views move more and more “left” or progressive the older I get. I have to wonder if the right movement of EVERYTHING has left us with little choice but to become, you know, communists?
You know, it's hard to hide from the awful state of Canadian politics when you're a political historian. Today I'm reviewing the 2000 Progressive Conservatives' federal platform. Read these extracts from their higher education and environment sections & weep at the loss of progressive conservatism.

Well shit, Garth Hudson has passed, at 87. Our last living member of The Band. I liked it when we still had one musical madman kicking around from that group.

It’s funny, honestly. It’s been a lousy couple months for a variety of reasons. Decided to take a week off work before Christmas. Day 2 of vacation, and I’ve been diagnosed with fucking shingles. Why the fuck not, right??

This graph tells many stories but I hope it helps explain why survivors of sexual violence have big feelings when rapists are sentenced.

We can, and should, re-define what justice looks like but it's also important to hold space for why moments like today feel so monumental.
