But if you mean “what if all lands were rainbow lands”, then there is less downside. But having to choose a commander with higher colors can be a negative. Perhaps you are missing out on a more synergistic piece in the command zone that is fewer colors. There are less 3+ color commanders

Even with my manabases, I notice that I have to mulligan more often with 3+ color decks. Sometimes the cards need colors on turns the lands do not produce, sometimes hands lack a color of mana entirely. And in deckbuilding, I am much more hesitant to include cards with multiple pips in mana costs

I had this one game with a guy who only brought bracket four and five decks with him. The rest of us only had bracket two and three decks, but were willing to go into a game with him as archenemy. *The guy tutored Blood Moon with his f i r s t tutor.* What a terrible non-game

I do not build for bracket 4, all of my multicolor decks have manabases optimized for fun games (the ability to cast spells) usually with only a basic of each color for Path to Exile / Assassin’s Trophy effects. I appreciate the pregame discussion for bracket 3 Blood Moon

Counterpoint: worn powerstones generate more energy than new ones (this is canon, not just “haha it makes two pips and powerstone tokens make one”)

Because that is an entire separate, previously existing word

Definitely proxy some alternative art. MTG.design is great not only for custom cards, but for aesthetically tweaking existing ones. I recreate old cards in it all the time to have decks with matching frames :>

I am actually quite pleased there are not 49 more legends in four more decks. Less UB is good

It feels less bad when it is indie games crossing over with other indie games. But I still dropped Vampire Survivors around the time they crossed over with Among Us, so <.<

Wait a minute, I could make a good Rats commander, not too boring or too powerful. Karumonix Rats blink. Proliferate subtheme? Let me cook.

Creatures are illegal, except for my bugs, which are great

I proxy the Omenpath versions when I play the cards! Fleem and The Terminus of Return are the ones I have played so far, and Duskmourn’s Claim is looking likely for a Vial Smasher list :>

The first ability should reference “greatest power” and state “the same is true for toughness” (See Odric, Lunarch Marshal)

Similarly, the second ability should read “…sacrifices the creature with the least power among creatures they control.” (see Poryphyry Nodes, Consumed by Greed).

The possessive form of It is Its. But this sort of breaks Magic templating, so I am sure WotC would find a way to phrase a UB It card so the possessive is not used.

cEDH manabases are genuinely greedy with their land counts and sometimes, the mana is just not there. So I have seen more non-games in this bracket than any other :/

Rant over. Thank you for bearing with this impromptu wall of text

On the flip side, cEDH is more fun because it dips back into the competitive mindset of playing around strong cards and strategies. Everyone agrees to cards like Winter Orb and builds their decks appropriately so everyone can participate.. usually.
November 12, 2025 at 8:56 PM
Commander is a casual format that is played for fun. More games are more fun when more players can participate. Silver bullet cards like Torpor Orb and especially Blood Moon impede on this, and they are why I do not find bracket four fun.
November 12, 2025 at 8:56 PM
The first kind of nonbasic manabase is only considered greedy because cards like Blood Moon exist and are played in competitive formats. Of course it is greedy not to play around powerful cards there. But commander is not competitive, and competitive definitions of greedy should not follow here.
November 12, 2025 at 8:56 PM
Additionally, “greedy” is far off the mark. If someone plays a budget deck of tapped duals, Temples, and DMU typed lands to reliably hit colors in a two- or three-color deck, they are greedy? I disagree. A greedy manabase, to me, means too many utility lands, which naturally hurts access to colors.
November 12, 2025 at 8:56 PM
This argument is terrible, especially for commander. The format already has a safety valve against 5c goodstuff — needing to play a 5c commander. Even cEDH decks, where power matters more than anything, usually stop at four colors because there is value in playing specific commanders.

A proper theft deck. Hostage Taker is a must. My friends know the only ᘛ⁐̤ᕐᐷ member who plays theft is Ammie, and she prefers red’s style. Also 30 lands, only basics. Many game changers. No interaction beyond theft. No ramp of any kind.

Removal cast with only red mana? :raised_eyebrow:
Not every deck is red, and there is only one Chaos Warp and one Wild Magic Surge (and players do not run the latter). Should we all be playing Meteor Golem and Universal Solvent?

Perhaps it is just me, but I prefer when players can safely run optimized manabases that allow them to more reliably cast their spells. Fewer mulligans for colors, fewer non-games where two players could not cast their commander for seven turns
