Shiny new vicar in the #CofE; I love God, board / computer / roleplaying games, bad puns, being autistic, coffee, bad puns, repetition, and self-referential humour. Husband of 1, dad of 2.
'Let all mortal flesh keep silence' is such an excellent #AshWednesday hymn, so why oh why does it contain three allel**as at the end which we're not supposed to sing in Lent!?

I've discovered a small Bluesky mystery.

Just over a week ago I gained a new follower - a woman, I won't name her, who claims to be a "Mum / Wife / Friend of Jesus 😊 Vicar's Wife ✝️Parkrunner 🏃‍♀️". She's got a lovely profile with photos of the Dorset coast and homemade cookies.

Assisted dying bill: Plan to scrap need for High Court approval
It comes after concerns over the court's capacity to hear each individual case in England and Wales.

Epiphany discovery of the day: The Beach Boys once did a cover of "We Three Kings of Orient Are", and it is without a doubt the worst cover of a Christmas carol I have ever heard.

In the middle of Morning Prayer this morning and came across Isaiah 60:16,

"You shall suck the milk of nations,
you shall suck the breasts of kings;"

...Do you think (deutero-) Isaiah knew how lactation works?

Planning a holiday with a friend to Bakewell. Realise belatedly that will make it a Tarts and Vicars party 😄

"Unto us a child is born; unto us a Son is given."
And you just know my sons will be up before the crack of dawn to celebrate. Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, Happy Christmas, friends. God bless you all. #clergymaltclub

Sitting in the back row at the local school carol service. 16 adorable Y3-6 kiddies singing 'Away in a Manger' and 'Little Donkey' in varying degrees of tunefulness and time. It doesn't get much more Village Vicar than this, does it?

I love my job.

And then God said, "Let there be caffeine," and there was caffeine, and he saw the caffeine and it was good. God separated the caf from the decaf: the caf he called great, and the decaf, pointless.

Tea time passed and work time came - that was the first break.

Not even a month in post and I'm already up the tower! I really do love my new church, and these bells are beautiful. Shame I couldn't get onto the roof, but I'm not going to challenge that storm!

Just totted up - only nine sermons & talks between now and Christmas Day, and two of them are more a short reflection. I'll count myself lucky!

Honestly, I don't know how introverts manage as clergy sometimes. Midweek Communion starts at 10am and only lasts 50 minutes, but between all the chat and impromptu pastoral work afterwards I didn't leave until 11:45. It must be so exhausting for my introvert colleagues, respect for them.

Happy Advent Sunday! Today is the first Sunday where I'm leading Holy Communion for my new church, and to say I'm excited is a little bit of an understatement 😁 #CofE

As a statistician this is incredibly pleasing, but it also sums up perfectly in one graphic why I left Twitter (it will never be X to me) the moment Musk took over.
A terrific theory that pairs well with the Economist's terrific and terrifying chart of Musk's tweeting.

Morning, friends! By popular demand (one stranger asked me) I've created a List of Bluesky accounts for the institutional Church of England.

For some reason I can't remove myself from the list (cringe), but I hope the others are of interest. Let me know if I've missed anyone!

Today is going to be complicated. Midweek Communion and an Internment of Ashes before lunch, then after lunch meeting the school deputy head and the school disco. Oh, and a wedding rehearsal in the evening. Time to put up the mental buttressing!

Spotted in the West Yorkshire Archive Service the other day - don't you just wish your name was Baron F Duckham? Ok, you'd be a martyr to spoonerisms, but who wouldn't want a name like a villain from a 1980s kid's TV show!?

Day off. We're snowed in so I'm playing hide-and-seek with my son, except he's forgotten all about me and is reading a book. This wouldn't be so bad if I weren't hidden in the wardrobe in the same room as him! I dont want to distract him from reading, but my leg is going to sleep. #DadLife #SendHelp

Being a new vicar is hard. It's all the same stuff as curacy, but while getting to know new people in a new church and a new community. Everything takes that little bit longer, and I still want to show my face at everything. Looking forward to my rest day tomorrow - once I finish Sunday's sermon!

Good evening, Bluesky! After abortive dalliances with other apps, I'm hoping to make this my online home.

Today is my tenth day as a vicar, and I woke up to this beautiful scene. Sadly I couldn't stop and appreciate it - it's been a hectic day. But that's done now, time for cake and the Bake-Off.
