Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has mobilized the National Guard, with Guard members now visible on Minneapolis streets wearing reflective vests to distinguish them from other agencies.

So: the matrix.org database secondary lost its FS due to a RAID failure earlier today (11:17 UTC). Then, we lost the primary at 17:26. We're trying to restore the primary DB FS (which could be fastish), while also doing a point-in-time backup restore from last night (which takes >10h).

I don’t mean to be doom and gloom about things. I guess my takeaway (1) is: no matter what people tell you, actual privacy in communications is one of the most important services in the entire world, yet (2) it is a totally unstable balancing act for for-profit companies to provide this, long term.
