Meet Makana, the Laysan albatross at Monterey Bay Aquarium!

💙Makana was rescued after sustaining injuries that left her unable to fly.

An unfortunate common name for an adorable little insect, bathroom moth flies, or Clogmia albipunctata, can be found near drains. Adults are poor flyers and often seen sitting on walls. Larvae live in aquatic environments and play an important role breaking down organic matter. #365species #insects

Harvestmen, or Daddy longlegs, are arachnids, but not true spiders. They do not spin webs, produce venom or bother people. They are omnivores that eat insects, fungi, even decaying matter. There are nearly 6,000 species of harvestmen throughout the world. #arachnids #365species #biodiversity

Mother deer often leave their fawns briefly to find places to forage. Young may be left curled up hidden in grass or they may explore nearby. Assuming it looks healthy, is not wandering aimlessly and is not alone for 24 hours, it should be fine. If not, call a wildlife expert for advice. #deer #fawn

Eastern pondhawk dragonflies are aggressive hunters. Like all dragonflies, they start life in fresh, calm bodies of water. Nymphs leave the water for a final molt when they emerge with wings. Native to Eastern North and Central America, males turn blue and females remain green. #365species #insects
