Some Hookland context .. Wind wound or wind-wound is the Hookland dialect that describes a path cut into a hill or other landscape feature that the land itself still feels as an injury or scar. Wind wounds are regarded as unlucky tracks and attractors of unpleasant things. #Hodology

Often on those paths that wind wound hills, you come across a well that has lost its old saint. The sense of sanctity remains, but you aren't sure what magics the water is imbued with. You don't know whether to make prayers or penny wishes, but you can feel the holy. – Matt Adams, 1982

There's a point on the Wolvercote Road where people used to report seeing a Scadfoot. When we were kids, I'd ask Dad to drive more slowly along it in hope of catching a glimpse. I was clearly that boy into seeing ancient death omens skulking along the verge. – Rob Amblewood (Voices of Hookland)

When even a Rector calls his parish 'witch-stalked and ghost-encircled', it's not surprising that Mordon is considered by others as haunted. It i somewhat odder that the rectory, knocked down rebuilt many times, seems to be the storehouse of so many of its phantoms. – C. Josiffe
