Today Halifax Council voted for a briefing note on reducing our Climate Action Tax by one third. Also today, COP released this statement. Could we be any more on the wrong side of history????

Finding data about police pursuits in Canada is challenging as each force keeps its own records. A study conducted by the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission for the RCMP found that 77 people died in police pursuits over a 10-year period ending in 2019. But that study was based on media reports and pursuits that failed to make the news were not included.

Also, these very smart people in Andy’s comments believe that bike lanes cost them money, but building and maintaining all of our municipal roads is covered by the registration fee they pay for their car 😂😂😂

This is a major bus stop/future BRT bus stop 3 or 4 days after a storm last February. That’s the norm on Herring Cove Road. People will not make the switch from driving to transit if they’re going to be subjected to this.
Some people can be seen exiting a transit bus onto a sidewalk that is covered in a thick layer of slick ice. There is nothing safely separating that sidewalk from the arterial road. Construction fencing can be seen right beside/extending somewhat onto that sidewalk.

A large proportion of those deaths seem to be male drivers and passengers between age 15 and age 24, and we’ve had a tragic number of those deaths so far in 2025. It seems to me like maybe we should do something about that?

Glad to see new recommendations from the Child Death Review Committee regarding swimming pools, but there’s nothing new in there that addresses the biggest cause of accidental deaths in the studied age group (1-24)

The blue is the brand. I’m 99.9% sure there are no photos of the inside of the garage because it is wall to wall full of these election signs that you can also see in the interior walk-thru.

That’s from this article in the Independent, which doesn’t specifically talk about zoning, more about the difference in the approaches towards homelessness in Finland compared to in Canadian provinces. But the questions it asks could be extrapolated to zoning.

Although many jurisdictions include safeguards for people who face housing denial or discrimination, none have stand-alone legislation protecting housing as a right. Prince Edward Island's Residential Tenancy Act references Canada's commitment to a United Nations treaty, which recognizes adequate housing as a human right but contains no provisions that uphold the right. In 2021, then Nova Scotia NDP leader Gary Burrill brought forward a private member's bill to enshrine housing as a fundamental right in that province's legislation. The bill was defeated in a 29-24 vote. In March 2024, the Canadian Human Rights Commission called on provinces and territories to enshrine the right to adequate housing in their laws, something all jurisdictions have failed to do.

I wonder how many people get confused trying to find Halifax Water due to the fact that the section of Cowie Hill Road near Peter Saulnier Dr, where Halifax Water is located is still labelled as Penny Ave on Google maps.
