I made this in Kindergarten art class in 1980. It hung on my parents’ tree every single year until I moved out and had been on mine ever since. (You can tell it’s fancy because the quaker oatmeal can lid was spray painted gold before the gluing of pasta and beans and peas.)

A comment on a post last week reminded me that I hadn’t gotten this out in years. I know it was a mass market piece when made in the GDR (because I saw a current version this weekend at a Weinachtsmarkt), that little plume of smoke brings fond memories of my time living in West Berlin.
