On top of that, tariffs on steel and aluminium, and cars, are still there.
why is *every* newspaper/programme running with the headline "tariffs are paused" when they haven't been.

What's happened is that every country (except China) gets a flat rate of 10% for 90 days.

Ya know who are typically considered the worst business owners? The ones that have no vision, are inconsistent and don't listen. It creates employee panic, lack of trust, and these companies typically don't hit their goals. Sound familiar?

He tanks the stock market, and he and his rich buddies buy low…

Then he pauses the tariffs, and stocks rise…

He and his rich buddies sell high.

Rinse and Repeat…over, and over again.

It isn’t Rocket Science…

It’s actually criminal.

So the tariff issue is NOT about JOBS, It is only ABOUT MONEY $$$$$
Pete Navarro said manufacturing will be automated if it comes back to the US. MAGA is screwed.

It's not over yet!
The 10% tariff will still hit US importers, as will the continuing 25% on Canada & Mexico. The bigly tariff on China will absolutely wreck many US businesses.
Other countries will roll back dependency on US trade. Trump is too volatile & too creepy to provide stability.

Market manipulation, plain and simple.

134pm: I'm pausing Tarrifs for 90 days

If Obama, Hillary, or Joe had pulled any of this, Republicans would be storming the Capital and building Gallows 😡

Has he fired Navarro yet? The other idiots he brought in? Followed by stepping down? That’s the only way to actually fix anything.
In case this isn't obvious, we haven't reached an all's-well-that-ends-well moment.

I’m not a global Econ guy. I guess take 2 here is slightly less ruinous in geopolitical terms. But it seems maybe even more catastrophic in inflationary terms and maybe growth terms too?

TL;DR: The new U.S. tariff rate against our two largest trading partners is either 10%, 25% or 35%, and so far no one I've reached out to at the White House is able to tell me which.
So the White House says the 10% baseline tariff also applies to Canada & Mexico. It has not said whether that's the effective new rate itself; whether it adds to the 25% fentanyl tariff, making the new rate 35%; or whether it kicks in only if the fentanyl tariff falls away
April 9, 2025 at 6:38 PM
Because 99% of what is coming out of the white house HAS BEEN THOROUGHLY STUDIED for at least 5 minutes before announcing it as PERMANENT POLICY,
With a new tariff being added/removed daily, I think it is pretty easy to lose track of what is in place.
US customs must be pulling their hair out!
Completely possible this is by design. But I think it’s just as possible it’s inadvertent. It’s not a defense. It’s just a testament to the level of sloppiness and incompetence.

Here’s the best way to understand what’s happening. Trump genuinely wants to impose a 19th century mercantilist model that would crash the economy and destroy the global trading order but the idea is just so colossally stupid and destructive, he can’t actually do it. So we get this.
