Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski — who placed a critical “yes” vote for President Donald Trump’s domestic agenda bill after intense negotiations to win her support — told reporters afterward that she is not happy with the measure and hopes the House sends it back. “We do not have a perfect bill by any stretch of the imagination,” Murkowksi told reporters. Asked by CNN why she decided to vote for the bill despite her concerns with it, she said: “Because we have two options here, right? Kill it and it’s gone.” Reflecting on the process, Murkowski added: “This is probably the most difficult and agonizing legislative 24-hour period that I have encountered, and I’ve been here quite a while. And you all know I’ve got a few battle scars underneath me. But I think I held my head up and made sure that the people of Alaska are not forgotten in this. But I think there is more that needs to be done and I’m not done.”

You know you're in a good neighborhood when the Lime and Bird scooters are either neatly placed, or violently thrown out of the main pedestrian thoroughfare.

UM just sent an email to all advising that the president's office will begin taking precautionary cost-saving measures due to threats of federal funding cuts.

The email states there have been orders from a federal agency to stop work on a multimillion-dollar project.

Dear faculty and staff, We are writing to keep you informed about the status of federal funding cuts and steps we are taking today to buffer against negative, long-term impacts on operations at the University of Michigan. While the university is fortunate to maintain a strong financial position, we have spent recent weeks modeling scenarios and taking prudent actions to be as prepared as possible to respond to financial events that may lie ahead. This week, the university received legal notice from a federal agency instructing us to stop work on a multimillion-dollar project. We expect this is the first of what will likely be many orders, the combined impact of which could have significant repercussions on the university’s budget. As a result, we are announcing several important new requirements involving hiring, budgets and spending, which will be effective immediately.

TIL there is an open source project creating APIs for micro-mobility called MDS. Complete with APIs for the provider, and for the local government.

They say it can be used for scooters, bikes, carshare, and even delivery robots. Neat.
