I love Kannada. Of course. I am a Telugu speaker too; I think it's the sweetest sounding language. Perhaps I'll be able to read simple Telugu children's books to some of my Telugu speaking students! 💫

The current Telugu aksharas bear uncanny resemblance, and in some cases, are the exact same as the older versions of Kannada aksharas.

The Vijayanagara kings are known in Karnataka for their contribution to Kannada and Karnataka, but some of them were so devoted to Telugu that they wrote books in it.

They did! Until around 1300 AD after which Telugu began to stick to its own script. During the Vijayanagara era, the Telugu script was further encouraged to assert its identity.

Last week I told a Telugu speaking student who learns Kannada with me that Kannada and Telugu are very close, like sisters. His mother reads Telugu stories to him. He recognized the similarity in the aksharas and said, half frustrated, "Why can't they just have the same script?"

11) She's growing up for sure but I'm not sure I'm ready for it.

10) When she was only 5, she complained to a stranger that her mother hadn't thrown her 6th birthday party. She says she wants to be a teenager soon because she believes she can then throw tantrums! Her mother wonders what she must call her everyday shenanigans now!

9) N has always been impatient to grow up. Three years ago, when she was "half and a four", she'd ask her mother first thing after waking up every day whether she was 5 already.

8) N is 7 now and this is what she wrote in a school worksheet. 💕 The switch from finding a kindred spirit in a character to understanding the creator's role in shaping the character and her world is so heartening. She's growing up!

7) And in *Daisy and the Trouble with Chocolate*, Kes Gray writes, "The trouble with chocolate is that once you’ve eaten one piece, you can’t stop!"

6) For context: In *Daisy and the Trouble with Zoos*, Kes Gray writes, "The trouble with zoos is that they’re full of animals, and some of them are really, really big."

5) When N was 6, she copied the style of Gray's signature sentence, "The trouble with . . ."

4) When N was 5, she made a list of questions to ask Kes Gray. (I was her scribe for a few months when her hand couldn't keep up with the speed of her mind.)
