I stopped using a smartphone yesterday. I've quit drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol and doomscrolling is more challenging to give up. The corporations have us so cooked, man.

Trying to understand Gene Wolfe’s THE BOOK OF THE NEW SUN is like trying to train a cat to sit on command. Mostly confusing and frustrating, but the times it accidentally happens are intensely satisfying.

I am…skeptical about this Elden Ring movie. I feel like all of the FromSoftware dark fantasy game stories are best told to an active participant. Like, I wanna fight some feral creature in a cave, only to find out in an item description that he used to be a beloved duke or something.

I just read THE HORROR AT RED HOOK and jesus christ. I knew it was going to be rough, much of Lovecraft's work is, but the final few paragraphs were so unbelievably over the top racist. I think I'll read @victorlavalle.bsky.social 's THE BALLAD OF BLACK TOM to get this bad taste out of my mouth.
