Happy Valentine’s Day, after Loving v. Virginia, Mildred and Richard remained married until 1975 when Richard was killed tragically in a car accident & Mildred lost her eye. Mildred died in 2008. Because of them my marriage is legal 2/2 #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackSky #HappyValentinesDay

Happy Valentine’s Day, June 12 1967 Mildred and Richard Loving won Loving v. Virginia securing the right to interracial marriage. The Lovings married in DC in 1958, were jailed for being married and forced to move out of Virginia. 1/2 #BlackHistoryMonth #Blacksky #HappyValentinesDay

Today we honor Claudette Colvin, the first woman not to give up her bus seat. Claudette was a dark skinned, teenager when she refused to give up her seat on the bus. Rosa Parks was chosen to repeat this in part because optically she was more “sympathetic”and “less objectionable” #blackhistorymonth
