The guys pulling the gunman away and yanking down his gun are giving very "C'mon Kenny, let's go back inside...he ain't worth it" vibes

The amount of money Caltrans has to spend fixing 80 and 50 every time we have a big snow is wild. There's no useful alternative to driving for a lot of trips along those corridors so they mandate chains and don't close the roads, which then all torn up.

One of the funniest things with car culture here is that when people start putting huge rims on everything, you very quickly run out of options for tires that are not summer performance models...which results in lifted 4x4s getting stuck in like...an inch of snow, which is very funny.

I think it's one of those "try a few different ones" situations. I went through almost half a dozen before I found some that worked a treat for my needs. I'd imagine the same would apply.

Yeah, i don't live somewhere that full goggles are really necessary but it gets very dry and my eyes would stream nonstop at 20mph. Plus I just have bug magnets for pupils which is...SO much fun.

My ebike cheat code here is a cheap pair of clear safety glasses that fit closely to your face and wearing a ballcap under your rain hood. The glasses work great to shield your eyes from rain but also wind, dust, and bugs. The ballcap lets you snug the hood tight without covering your eyes at all.

To be clear, I'm specifically referring to when a worker rocks up in a pickup truck filled with scooters and just fills up a public rack with them. If you rent one and ride it somewhere, you should be able to park it publicly just fine.

I could see an inverse of this working too. In Sacramento's midtown, the Gold Line light rail runs along Quill Alley for a few blocks, with pretty old Mansion Apartment lots backed onto it. If you kept them but replaced their garages with the 6-flat and shops at ground level, that'd be amazing.

Affordability is literally what the auto industry has trotted out every time the government has mandated game-changing safety technology despite the actual cost increase being equal to a fraction of "dealer fees".

Seatbelts? Airbags? Backup cameras? All challenged on the grounds of affordability

Just like with infrastructure, we need a continuous and rolling program of fleet expansion and modernization. It can take years just to get an order approved and sent to the manufacturer and with our fleets only ever as big as current service requires, there's no way to add service in a pinch

NGL: i cannot imagine the experience of dealing with Union Pacific will be improved by their merging with Norfolk Southern

It's bit of an odd takeaway but this is why I'm always really sad to see where former rail yards within urban areas have been ripped out and replaced by development. Like, sure, we need housing and such but you can never get that trackside land back and we'll need it eventually.

The wildest weather/clothing realization I ever had was back when I lived in New Orleans and realized wearing a full rain shell (no insulation, just shell) in one of our insane 1-2"/hr summer downpours basically was like having a heatsink all over my body, and made it insanely comfortable to cycle.

Setting aside the addicts who obsess about always having the newest devices, I feel like there are only two real reasons why folks replace them:

1. It breaks and can't be repaired
2. Software updates overwhelm the hardware and bog it down

Both of these have legislative solutions imo.

I don't know that it's under-rated but I've always had decent results out of my Argus C3 (hilariously). It's an old-school rangefinder tho so swapping lenses (or even finding complete lens sets TO swap) is a pain since you need the matched rangefinder lenses for each.
