the fact that so many agents sell querying advice and pitching courses and get agented masterclasses really stresses me out because i just feel like it inevitably creates a profit motive to make querying as obscure and difficult and intimidating as possible

at a conference yesterday a survey result blew my mind: people are broadly positive about ads in places where ppl want to learn about products and services (eg shops). advertisers have strewn the innards of the golden goose all over our floors and now theyre mad that we're getting out the mop.

the movies had a very strict policy of only hiring cast and crew who were kind, decent, and trustworthy around children in order to protect their young actors

this policy is backfiring on rowling now because anyone kind, decent, or trustworthy around children wants nothing to do with her
"As ever, Rowling is a raving lunatic who’s full of shit. Even the gentlest rebuking sends her into a spiraling Twitter frenzy, and as amusing as that can be, I have to wonder how many more hate groups she intends to fund in her ruthless drive to scour trans people from the face of the Earth."
OG Potter Director Lightly Critiques Rowling, Meltdown Ensues — Assigned
When Chris Columbus offered a very gentle rebuke of J.K. Rowling’s years of devotion to destroying transgender people, she immediately went on Twitter and completely lost her mind.

maybe this is self-serving as someone who enjoys both writing and reading it but where has short genre fiction gone. not everything has to be >300k. not everything even needs to be >80k.

Yep. Prestige podcasting is dying for the same reason as the rest of the media: Pontificating is cheap and reporting is expensive.

I see we’re doing “film criticism is dead” discourse again. Film criticism is alive and well, it’s just being done by sexy podcasters instead of transphobic newspapers 🤷‍♀️

Hi. I’m the universal translator in Star Trek. I will translate everything in real time even making lip movements match. Occasionally I will switch off when someone really wants to speak a different language than the listener
Hi. I'm the warp core ejection mechanism in Star Trek. If you ever really need me, I'll almost certainly be offline. On the bright side, there's a 90% chance that my failure will be negated when a temporal causality loop is closed.
Hello. I’m Cortical Stimulators in Star Trek. I think I’m supposed to be like a pacemaker for the brain or something but all I seem to do is make someone’s body bounce on the table a couple of times before they are pronounced dead. If you need to have me used on you, you’re hosed.
