I think the most straightforward answer is that he knows he can’t keep it from coming up for a House vote and he knows he’s going to lose that vote now and he hates nothing more than being seen as a loser so the only way to temporarily save face is to act like he was on the side of the winning vote.

Uh huh. He spent most of the past week trying to threaten and bribe Republicans not to vote for their release, calling them stupid if they do, and all of a sudden he’s changed his mind?? Please.

Most totally despicable people have a couple things they are in line with normal people about. Maybe they are racist (bad) but really like pizza (good). Maybe they abuse puppies (bad) but think Casablanca is a great movie (good). I think MTG’s “good thing” just happens to be important right now.
