In many countries including Australia, NZ, the UK & Canada, authors also get paid regularly for library use of their books.
It’s called the Public Lending Right scheme here, though it has several names globally.
It doesn’t exist in the USA, so their authors do miss out on that compensation, alas.

Libraries buy books; authors receive royalties every time a book is sold. Authors aren't missing out on compensation. Libraries don't cheat authors. I'm an author. Libraries carry my books. I love libraries.
