To help instructors diversify course content, we’re building a database of articles focused on the relationship experiences of marginalized and underrepresented populations. Do you have any to recommend (perhaps one you’ve written yourself or read recently)? Recommend it here: tinyurl.com/IARRrecs

Dear academics

We could dramatically reduce our administrative workload if we all just agreed not to ask for reference letters until we made our list of finalists.

This is massive collective action problem has already been solved by…

*checks notes*

…every other industry on earth.
Who is for abolishing grad app letters of rec at the point of application? Would it be so bad if letters were requested AFTER candidates were shortlisted? If we do this at UCSD who will join us?

One key skill in science and in life is knowing when to leave. I switched labs in my second year of grad school, then switched jobs in my second year on the tenure track. Better to admit that you walked through the wrong door than spend your life in the wrong room.

Is there an open-access survey platform that's like Qualtrics, but is free? Anything besides google forms? I'm putting together a list of research tools that increase access to the research process for people around the world (R, Jamovi, Zotero, etc.)

Is there recent research on best practices for attention checks/bot detection in survey research? Or do you have experience with ones that do versus do not work anymore?

This paper reports on a survey of journal editors’ perceptions of departures from pre-registrations, and provides a template for transparently tracking and disclosing them (I really like the latter). Worth thinking about incorporating in your lab’s SOPs.
