To finish, one of the greatest acceptance speeches ever. Jack Nicholson accepted his BAFTA for Chinatown from the set of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest…

Utvandrarna / The Emigrants (1971)

Why? For one, it’s absolutely gorgeous. For two, its authenticity in following an ordinary family navigating the old world and the new. Not a false note in 191 minutes.
What is the best movie not from this year that you’ve seen this year? Bonus points if you say why

Saw this a long time ago, remembered almost nothing, rewatched for the, “How did this beat Woolf?” of it all.

Hot Take: A good, underrated winner. Scofield too. And, uh, some very timely themes, let’s just say that.

Worth a rewatch if it’s been a minute and your love language is integrity.

listen we may have lost our family business, made our kids miserable, had to live in a barn with goats and lost $50,000 to a local Russian slumlord, but at least we dont have to see gay people in public

With the Oscar she won for Suspicion. An unusually pensive mood at such a triumphant moment.
