I think it’s a good thing Bluesky is having a bit of an existential moment with this moderation situation… we needed these kinds of moments in order to press forward and be forced to better prioritize further decentralization.

As it currently stands, when the average person gets fed up with Bluesky for whatever reason, their “right to leave” looks like them just *actually* leaving and exiting the ATmosphere completely — which is both detrimental to the ecosystem and also will hurt Bluesky’s “bottom line” indirectly

Jay is right about this, but I think the Bluesky team needs to expedite making “leaving” easier for the average person.

Is it really a “right to leave” if 99% of the population has no idea how to leave and/or are lacking the technical skills/time needed to do so?
We knew from the start we can’t get everything right. Moderation is a hard problem, and it’s impossible to please everyone. So we built a protocol where you always have the right to leave. If you don’t trust us, or don’t like our decisions, you deserve the right to choose an alternative.

I got bored, so I was researching how to make my smartphone more "boring". Is that a paradox?

it's not really something you can measure but those small individual changes in attitude will add up, I think

a lot of people talk about the economic aspect of UBI, which is fair, but what interests me far more is the social effects of giving everyone a standard issue vote of confidence and a reminder that they're valuable

I need to follow some more accounts on here. Any cool accounts for photography/art and technology?

I love and hate AI at the same time. Not for the technology itself, it's great for ideation and experimentation. It's more for the economic circumstances that we're in while development is happening.

*cough* capitalism *cough*
