HIV+ activist, social psychologist, gay nerd, grandfather to two most awesome granddaughters, Berliner from Budapest, I’m a hot mess. Minus the hotness.
Elveszi a munkámat, aha, biztosan.

This and other similar images promoted by the current US administration are indeed astonishingly similar to the Aryan propaganda imagery of the Third Reich (aka Hitler) in Germany in the 1930’s and 40’s.

Look, my dog Bruno looks quite similar! He is an elderly chap though.

Before Monchichi and before Labubu, there was
CHEBURASHKA!
But people discrimate against them because they come from the Soviet Union. (Or maybe he, perhaps she.)

Allerdings waren die Nazis nicht mehr als 50, wobei die Teilnehmerzahl des Budapest Pride um 100.000 war, oder sogar mehr. Hier der Unterschied in Bildern.

The backstory is exciting: after several bans, the mayor of Budapest (see image) announced this not as a Pride march but as an event to commemorate the withdrawal of Russian troops from Hungary. A double slap in Orbán’s face who is Putin’s lapdog but famously said in 1989: “Russky go home!”

This is Gergely Karácsony, the mayor of Budapest. When all attempts of the original Budapest Pride were banned, he stepped in and announced this event by the city, which does not need police approval. Ironically, the event officially commemorates the withdrawal of Russian troops from Hungary.

It is worth noting that Orbán and his cronies literally banned this event several times, threatened the organisers and participants with jail time and exorbitant fines. Clearly, people don’t give a shit anymore. It will be interesting to see how Orbán stands up from this - he has become a joke.

Many commentators already suggest that this march turned out to be not about queer pride but about a regime change and dismissing Orbán’s kleptocratic, corrupt and fascist government. It is ironic that a queer event could grow to be such a thorn in Orbán’s side, whose own son is rumoured to be gay.

A literal sea of people - a rare and refreshing view in Hungary. Ultimately, the regime could not take its only remaining option: open violence against demonstrators. Diplomats, politicians and activists, but also plenty of simple citizens from all over Europe were in the crowd.
June 28, 2025 at 4:06 PM
We don’t have official statistics yet, however it is clear from the mere visuals that this is one of the largest ever demonstrations against Orbán and his ruthless, corrupt kleptocracy that the country has seen in the last 15 years. “Lefőtt a kávé!” say Hungarians: your coffee is served Mr. Orbán.

Extreme right and ultranationalist demonstrators blocked the original bridge that the Budapest Pride march wanted to cross. So the march opted for another, more photogenic bridge. Never before have so many people hit the streets to march against the oppressive, fascist Orbán regime.

People were gathering on a central square in Budapest to attend the Budapest Pride parade. While LGBTQ rights were the focus, this event was about protecting the fundamental rights of Hungarian citizens.

I have finally read this, I am raging with anger and frustration that Snyder had warned us in 2017 of all the crap that was happening and coming, and yet here we are. And also that yes, people from eastern Europe have been yelling at the top of our voices but were not heard. Everything is so bad.

I feel very alone and anxious. I would like to receive some good news. Any good news.

This is not AI, this is, unironically, the Hungarian prime minister happy with his potatoes. He is adored by his voters because he has promised, again, that inflation will stop. Sounds familiar? Potatoes are good!
