Hundreds of small acts of courage that together shaped the future of a country in democracy. Assuming you live in a Democracy, take the day to celebrate/appreciate/enjoy your freedom in a time where winds from the West remind us that those who go to sleep in democracy might wake up in dictatorship.

Or the story of how a woman, Celeste Caeiro, that was going to the market to sell flowers, blood red carnations, and put one in the barrel of a gun, to show that the people did not desire war, and how that set the tone to many others doing it, with the revolution gaining its name.

Another story where a single captain Rui Rodrigues, with a very small group of men, secured the airport on his own, by saying that the regime troops had to surrender to him as the regime had fallen (this was not true, not yet at least) and reinforcements were on the way.

Salgueiro Maia's nerves of steel, who stood in front of the regime forces, a tank directly pointed at him, and survived the order given twice to shoot him, which the soldiers at the other side refused to obey. A true act of courage that might have represented one of the major blows on the regime.

Those guys were truly evil, often sadistic bastards with a free license to do the worst of things to other men, and I suspect they would not go down without a fight, fearing the repercussions of years of torture and selective killings they led. There are endless small stories within the big story.

This was an amazing event were a group of low rank officials decided to change the course of history. There were barely any casualties, and those that happened, 6 if I recall correctly, were the consequence of a stand off gone wrong with the political police.

I began the public defense with a "conflict of interests" statement: "I am conflicted about being objective given your boyfriend crashed into me 20 mins ago" The student turned red, then purple, then green, finally yellow. Still, she passed 😀 A story to remember forever. A once in a Universe event?
