Today was the last day of Ecological Modelling classes, I "offered" the students a full day workshop where I would work with them and their final assignment models. Yesterday we had a little get together to celebrate end of term. What a great class. #WorkHardPartyHarder

Today I was at Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência, at Feira da Matemática, with an activity about how to count animals. this time I was accompanied by my MSc student Matilde Correia, who was a student at this high school a few years back. It was really nice to see the students experience one of "them" now talking to them as a "scientist". You could see the "maybe I can do it too" spark in some of their eyes...

Today I was at Escola Secundária Romeu Correia talking to the students about science and the importance of statistics in our lives and how it might be a carreer choice. With quick detours to talk about climate change, the Dunning Krugger effect, critical thinking, estimating animal abundance...

I got a standing ovation during Ecologia Numérica class @FC_UL ok, details: an Asian wasp got in the classroom, I managed to get it out of the room with the help of a student's jacket, after 5 minutes of mayhem. In a few years I'll forget details, I'll just remember t ovation 🤣we
