I've seen it up close and personal. If I hadn't experienced it personally, the sense of entitlement some of these folks have is pretty impressive. You don't want to believe they think/live that way, but they do.

Perhaps 2 terrible options: 1 - they protect him because they genuinely fear him/his movement and want to protect their empires. 2 - they protect him because they, too, were participants.
