There is something about the straightforward, understated presentation of it all that draws me in. No music, fast cuts, big costumes, fog machines, elaborate props…just a level of skill that doesn’t need any of that to hide behind.

I remember that one time when the nWo ran out from the back to interfere with Sting, saw that his match was taking place in a cage, then turned around and walked away while sad Charlie Brown music played.

TIRED: They should make the whole airplane out of the stuff they make the black box out of.

WIRED: Insulate your home by packing the walls with hotel blankets.

Cinnamon Life is a staple in our house! My go to is half a bowl of either Cinnamon Life or Golden Crisp, cut with Cheerios because I’m old.

Let’s hear about those favorite junk cereals! I haven’t had peanut butter crunch in years due to an allergy in the house, I am now badly craving it.

Yep, every horror cover in a video rental store felt like a warning!
November 13, 2025 at 12:20 AM
I feel that. I mostly avoided it, but occasionally morbid curiosity would get the better of me, and I would confirm for myself that it was a big wall of Nope.

Faces of Death, Dead Alive, Critters, Parents, all seared into my brain by the reputation of the cover alone.

Creature effects are exactly the thing I could not handle at that age, and Wikipedia says that this show was a showcase for creature effects; which is probably why I conflated it with Tales from the Darkside instead of acknowledging its existence.
November 12, 2025 at 8:20 PM
That’s about the size of it!

If Wikipedia is to be believed, the producer of Tales From the Darkside had gotten frustrated with the show never winning awards for makeup and special effects, so they ended up making a show that went extra hard on those things. All that tracks with what I saw.

“Imagine if you will a world where something happens, then something else happens, then something else happens after that, and there is latex and green stuff.”

It was actually from a show called “Monsters”; the ep. is called “Sin Sop”, and it was more about the gross creature effects than the plot; which played like “what if the Twilight Zone was pointless?”

BTW, if you’ve ever heard me say “Enough (something) to choke a mule”, I got it from that promo.
