I asked NotebookLM from Google to create an entertaining 'podcast' on Sameh's recent active-matter paper. It is well done! They care about both, addressing a wider audience than only experts in the field and presenting the results we discussed in the paper. :-)

Motility-induced phase separation of active Brownian particles (ABPs) in a rectangular simulation box with periodic boundary conditions. A homogeneous alignment field parallel to the short axis of the box couples to the particle's dipole moments and aligns the directions of their self-propulsion velocities, which leads to an overall particle flow. In the gas-liquid coexistence regime, the ABPs phase-separate into two slabs, with a gas and a liquid phase, and the phase boundaries are oriented parallel to the field direction. This allows us to place two stacked square boxes in the center of each slab to measure the coexisting particle packing fractions for a given Peclet number, which mark points on the binodals delimiting the coexistence region. Due to the presence of defects, the packing fraction in the liquid phase is significantly lower than for hexagonal close packing.
