The National Trust, which owns many historical buildings, has in the last decade or so been adding information about slavery to displays. The response has been a furious culture war and an organised attempt by tens of thousands of people to vote out its board. They seem to have been seen off for now

As others have said, the Nazis didn’t become fascists with the Night of Long Knives or the opening of extermination camps. They’d been fascist all along. The purpose of naming fascism is to prevent atrocities from happening. What TN is doing is the opposite: minimizing, and attacking this who don’t.

Among the Aspen Center’s quirks is that they won’t tell you who will be there before you go — and visits are 3 weeks long or more. Once I went and saw my rapist’s name on the door across from my assigned office.

But I had to stay because of the importance of seeing and being seen there.
