U St Bus Project changes at 16th & U & NH Ave got a whole slide of their own, and for good reason—big changes here!

Though I do have _some_ trepidation about losing the NH Ave bike signal, I was one of several members _very_ happy to see this shitshow intersection get safer as part of this project.

DDOT presented tonight to the ANC 1B Transportation committee on the U St Bus Priority Project and it looks…pretty fabulous. Slides should be up very soon at buspriority.ddot.dc.gov/pages/ustnw but here are a few screenshots of highlights.

Meet the PLAZA program, passed at the very end of 2024. code.dccouncil.gov/us/dc/counci...

ANC 2B will consider tonight a resolution to ask 17th St in Dupont to be one of the initial implementations, but 1C could ask for 18th as well….

where did the $24,000 come from?

at $20/square foot/year, that would cover a 1,200-sf streatery, larger than just about anywhere I've ever lived.

assuming a generous 8-foot-wide parking lane, that's a 150-foot long streatery. Not even Prost's massive space is that big. Duke's *block* is half that.

Was walking down Sherman Ave the other night and several of the big corner planters outside the capoeira studio had been shoved into the middle of the sidewalk. Was reminded of the time a few years ago when someone pushed the Odd Provisions planters nearly into the store, just a few blocks away….

I know we go through this every damn year, but

I still don’t understand why, esp. in Wards 1&4, DC DPW insists on using leaf pickup zones that are _almost_ the same as ANCs, and giving them names that are _exactly_ the same as _different_ ANCs.

(For that matter, why are they ward-based at all?)

not sure if it says more about my brain generally or just my need for new glasses that after i first saw this I had a moment of trying to figure out what an Underground Swim Facility would be like -- how is that different from an Indoor Pool and why would one be there...?

Cutting 16th down will allow eliminating almost entirely the existing exit-ramp-like southbound roadway from Georgia until the merge — everything will be on the current NB roadway.

At the other end, the same project will also square off two of the 495 exit ramps and eliminate a third.

not until after publication, apparently.

Remember when John Rocker got suspended for two and a half months for being a racist homophobe in Sports Illustrated and then got traded to Cleveland a year and a half later and Texas half a year after that because he was also a garbage pitcher?

Today's Juxtaposition-of-the-Day (ft @travis-robert.bsky.social, @mocomikee.bsky.social, Mamdani, & @ericsaul.bsky.social) is a bit tall, but worth it.

"the most radical thing we could do [is]…let someone build an apartment" and make it possible to live there without being required to use a car.

Love spending several minutes on the side of the road trying to report a traffic signal issue to @ddotdc.bsky.social only to find that DC's 311 app is still garbage.

One guy getting three rings in six years, eh, whatever.

That other guy, though, three rings in three years _with three different teams_? That’s not only never happened before in baseball, it’s never happened in the NFL, NBA, or NHL, either.

and the bit about 'slip lanes' == it doesn't have to look like a highway exit like the lower-right corner here to allow high-speed turns

why would you need ChatGPT to create this image when there are piles of perfectly usable photographs of the Monument being struck by lightning which were taken by actual humans?

trying to figure out 2 ppl's availability for a mtg next week.

could *not* figure out why Outlook Scheduling Assistant showed "busy" when neither of us had anything, and sometimes "all free" when neither were.

…yeah, Outlook apparently is just as confused about the end of DST as the rest of us.

On Nov. 15 we'll discuss, inter alia, minor bylaw changes (fixing typos, allowing special elections & online meetings) and hopefully fill some vacant seats.

And boy, have we got vacant seats—22 of 'em! Check out ward1democrats.org/precinct-reps and let us know if you're interested in joining us.

A couple years ago I managed to get a line about this into the Vision Zero Action Plan for a local town where something like 30% are immigrants, 40% speak something other than English at home, and 45% are African American.

Not sure if it’s something I set accidentally and can’t figure out how to unset, or something @firefox.com imposed (or Apple required?) but this new thing where iPad Firefox’s address bar only ever shows the domain is obnoxious and I would like my full-address display back pls.

Some highlights of DDOT's Crosstown Bus Priority concept presentation:

* Three scenarios to choose from—curbside bus lanes w/ no right parking, offset bus lanes w/ no left parking, or two parking lanes and only one through lane.
* Wider sidewalks on 1600 Irving (❗️)
* A Rabaut Park Roundabout (‼️)
