The best metric of both PMF and customer happiness is: Retention.

Can’t argue with “keeps giving us money.”

Maybe “referrals” is even better -- advocating, putting their reputation on the line.

Increase these, and it won’t matter how many people 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 like you.

When creating PDFs, avoid using "Print to PDF." A screen reader user may still be able to access the text of PDFs created this way, but heading structure, alternative text, and any other tag structure will be lost. Using "Save As" or "Export" can preserve these tags.

Koan #74

“I don’t know what will make me happy.”
“Maybe this will make me happy.”
“I sacrificed for years so that I could be happy.”
“Some of that made me happy, but now I’m different.”
“I don’t know what will make me happy.”

And the student was enlightened.

An expression we use in lab is “shits & giggles” testing. Meaning the result is either already known, absolutely irrelevant to patient care or the doc literally has no idea what’s wrong so they’ve ordered everything on the test menu.

This is the pinnacle of shits & giggles testing.

As Long as Theseus is alive!, It is indeed a ship of theseus.
Everything at a company changes over time.

People, product, processes, strategy, customers, brand, content, everything.

How is it even the same company?

It’s the values. That’s the actual journey.
In its emptiness, there is the function of a startup
Everything about a startup changes over time. The few things that don’t, are its essence. The voyage is meaningless, unless you decide what those things are.

No matter what you say or do, if it’s opinionated or interesting, some people will disagree, or even hate you.

A mindset where you don’t care what anyone thinks, is probably bad.

But trying to please everyone is wrong, since it’s unobtainable.

What to do with that?

Hi guys, I started working at AWS as a Senior Software Developer. A couple of hours ago, I pushed new updates to AWS to speed things up. I have a good feeling about it. I'm so glad for the new job. #greatful

Well that was a very interesting #Rustlang pre-RFC text! Effectively arguing that Rust is painting itself into a substructural type system corner, and should recognise this as a fact and take the theoretical framework into focus when applying the paint.

As a logician by training, I'm all for it!

Quick blogpost about a nice trick I discovered yesterday in #rustlang: that Deref bound I already had? Turns out it's all you need for universal Arc/Box/T APIs. Sometimes the solution is right there!

Just because you've done it successfully before, doesn’t mean you know everything.

You know some things, especially operational.

But you start over with customers, market, fit--every time.

The Buddha says: Life is suffering.

Certainly, the life of a founder is mostly suffering, even when it’s going well.

I don’t love it because of the suffering though. It’s the striving, the building, the solving.

Suffering is a side-effect.

It's a beautiful kind of irony when the world's most famous DDoS protector ends up getting taken down by a single useEffect hook. They protected everyone else from the storm, but forgot to board up their own windows.

But Microsoft Teams is the most popular video conferencing software, and I'll bet the majority of their users don't prefer Teams to the competition.

Need to be said aloud from rooftops!!
It’s not a “family,” it’s a "team."

Like a great sports team, you can care a 𝘭𝘰𝘵 about the people, yet also demand performance. And you pick who is on the team, and you can give people more chances, or not, as time and energy permit.

Fear is good when it’s motivating you to work hard and diligently.

Fear is bad when you’re paralyzed, or making you think you’re not good enough as a human being.

It can be difficult to steady yourself on that line. Still, that’s where you want to be.
