The reality of claiming PIP: a 🧵

1) To claim PIP you have to describe in excruciating detail all the ways you cannot function. This means that you are forced to think in very detailed terms exactly how disabled you are, which often has a devastating effect on the mental health of the applicant 1/?

I know coverage of disability benefits can be very distressing. So, I’ve worked with colleagues to make a range of support visible on The Guardian’s site.

If you click on a relevant news story, you’ll see a “drop box” of signposted mental health help as well as benefits advice.

Last month I did a little experiment.

I wanted to see how the exact same post would perform on both X (Twitter) and Bluesky.

The results were...interesting...

If you oppose NHS privatisation, please could you repost this? I’m fed up of being told that we’re ‘radical’ - most people oppose NHS privatisation! Let’s send a message to those destroying the NHS! 🚨💙

This is a fascinating story. Marsham and 6 generations of his family kept a detailed log of the dates a selection of spring flora and fauna appeared each year...for 222 years! Starting in pre-industrial Britain is it the longest science experiment of its kind ever undertaken. Really worth a read ⤵️
Robert Marsham’s “Indications of Spring” documented nature’s calendar for over two centuries.

Now, scientists see his work as a baseline – showing how rising temperatures are shifting the seasons before our eyes.

Hugh Aldersey-Williams aka @hoooaw.bsky.social reports.

Robert Marsham’s “Indications of Spring” is an incredible 222-year record of flora and fauna events that still informs climate studies today
