Have we forgotten how to forgive? (A thread)

The recent furore over the incident with the baby at Duck Bay Marina is yet another example of our seemingly new normal - one mistake and you’re toast.

Good conversations today around what good data sharing can support around local suicide prevention work, how to bring partners on board with local actions and the challenges of high profile locations of concern work. One day I’ll get a chance to respond to all my emails 😂

Is it normal in my line of work to be concerned about the height of the parapet of the bridge in Bridget Jones instead of enjoying the romantic summer montage??

Heard yesterday about the role library staff in one community are playing in building community and preventing suicide. They really are about more than books. Took me back to the project I delivered to create a parent space in Parkhead library.

Today I met with suicide prevention colleagues in Edinburgh and East Lothian. Great discussions about continuing to work in partnership to reduce suicide and tackle inequalities despite the ongoing challenges. Great work already happening and lots of ideas about how we can do more. Good day.

Just lost it with an old auntie of mine who posted this. Female bodies are not iPads. When we tell a girl to cover up, what are we teaching her?

Saying that a girls value and respect comes from what she wears dehumanises her. It excuses male abuse. It’s victim blaming. It’s wrong.

Today I listened as reps from a range of men focused groups and services spoke about men’s experiences of/barriers to accessing clinical support for suicidal thoughts. Really rich & important discussion.

Hearing about Wave After Wave suicide bereavement training which I helped to develop when I worked in Glasgow being delivered in two Scottish universities. Seems like it’s being well received. Here’s hoping we see more delivery of this amazing FREE resource soon!

Had a good moment today when a face from my childhood appeared unexpectedly in a work meeting. Much hilarity ensued and jokes about Ayrshire people (I’m one of them) and it weirdly made my day.

Reflecting on the work my colleagues and I do around suicide prevention in Scotland. I think we are doing on ok job, but I wish I could see what we could achieve if we’d had some of the same budget that was sloshing around 10 or 15 years ago!!

Sometimes I think people just say a lot of words because they sound good and like they could make sense in the certain context. Either that or my complete lack of understanding of what the hell they are talking about is something I need to work on. (My face in a lot of meetings ⬇️)
