Although some years back I met an Asian man who liked living in Harrogate because people assume he's a doctor or accountant. In Leeds they expect him to drive a minicab.

One of the many lovely things about moving to Aotearoa New Zealand is feeling under no obligation to eat any particular thing at Christmas.

260 people died as a result of the Troubles in 1975. 33 people died in the Dibble's Bridge coach crash, 43 in the Moorgate tube crash and 6 in the Nuneaton rail crash. Deaths from domestic terrorism and rail crashes are far less common now.

My dad mostly sends very brief emails or texts e.g. Dear Susanna, Your new credit card has arrived. Love Dad. It is slightly like being sent a telegram.

Jane Austen used her's and their's. It's only been incorrect for about 150 years.

Bell Burnell, not Burrell (I get that that's probably just autocorrect, but in case anyone was looking for more information about her the correct spelling might help).

One of my earliest memories is standing in a police station (our car had a flat battery, mum was asking if the coppers could lend her some jump leads) and reading a poster asking for information about a girl who had been abducted and murdered. She was my age, five. She was called Caroline Hogg.

It generally is, particularly compared with where I lived in England, and the winters are mild, but it can still do the four seasons in one day thing!

Particularly a problem in places with unpredictable weather, as in the poem "Just In Case" by Charlotte Mitchell: I’m going away for the weekend | The Snail of Happiness share.google/osA5MwhBf0yU...

Fab photo - but I was in the other cathedral - I have no knowledge of the watertightness of St Patrick's. (Also it's my first time in Melbourne and I love it. Already thinking about a return visit).

There was quite a lot of rain inside the cathedral...

In NZ our clocks went forward on 28th September and we had the few excellent weeks of 12 hours time difference with the UK. Now it'll be 13 or 11 and I'll have to check before ringing my family.

Possibly not the greatest, but the ones that stick in my head:
"The secret to success
Is on this VHS" (Strictly Ballroom) and
"All those things you saw in your pyjamas
Are a long-range forecast for your farmers"
(Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat)

Same, though now I have to put the UK code in front and I only ring the landline to tell them to find their mobile phone so I can use Whatsapp to call them.
