i just read something about grief from C.S. Lewis and his book, “A Grief Observed”
basically, when someone you love dies, it isn’t just them that you miss, but the parts of yourself that person brought out of you that can never be brought out again.

The thing with cheating at school and university... I never did it. Not because I was a morally superior being, I just wouldn't have seen the point. I was never top of the class, but by the time I got to 16, I knew I was learning because I wanted to find things out and hone my thinking skills.

It took me a very long time to learn "do your best" does not mean "give 100% effort even at the expense of your physical or mental health" or "give A+ effort even when it is clearly not appreciated or valued". Sometimes doing your best is heating up a can of soup and going to bed early.
