Just finished Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi, and it is by far my favorite historical fiction this year. Homegoing traces the generational impact of colonialism and slavery in Ghana and America across 250 years. Showing us its residual effects longer after it was abolished. Amazing read

Pachinko is an epic historical saga that follows a Korean family over four generations as they fight for survival. At its core, the book is a tribute to the immigrant experience and the desire in all of us to find a place where we can call home and truly belong. A great read

Finished Killers of the Flower Moon earlier this year and it's a fantastic nonfiction. Grann crafts a perfect balance between detailed historic info and a compelling narrative. Must read for fans of true crime and anyone interested about the dark corners of American history

Currently in the mood for historical fiction. After learning more about Korean history, I couldn't put down Pachinko

DESI scientists mapped how nearly 6 million galaxies cluster across 11 billion years of cosmic history. Their observations line up with what Einstein's theory of general relativity predicts.

RF Kuang's Babel has solidified her as one of my favorite fantasy authors. An erudite and gripping read, her prose is sharp and intelligent and urgent. Really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

Nothing to Envy by Barbara Demick is a fascinating insight into the economy, social dynamics and political landscape of North Korea. So full of heartbreak and trauma but also of love and the beautiful complexity of human connection. A must read

Why do so many feel like they've fallen behind?

It's not because of immigrants, trans people, the “deep state,” or any other bogeyman trotted out by the GOP.

It's because big corporations and billionaires have rigged markets and siphoned off most of the economy's gains

When I was 5, I loved science, which I took to be planets and magnets and chemicals and shit.

Soon I realized science was a collective human activity, and these were just the objects of its attention.

Anyway, whenever I read an OpEd on how science isn't political, I think "Are you 5 years old?"

Trans people just want the right to exist safely as their true selves, like everyone else.

But they’ve become easy scapegoats for the GOP, who vilify them and threaten to criminalize their very existence.

It's straight from the authoritarian playbook.

Researchers have developed a new theoretical framework that makes it possible to treat all 30 of the different B meson decays simultaneously. The framework reveals statistically significant inconsistencies whose resolution might require new particles, new fields, or other new physics.
Sharpening the B-Meson Anomalies
A new analysis of B-meson decays strongly hints that they harbor physics beyond the standard model.

I would like to speak up today for the trans community.

You see, I know a bit of what it’s like to be politically scapegoated. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, suddenly anyone in America who had any amount of Japanese ancestry became suspect. Politicians preyed upon ignorance and fear. /1

Quantum field theories (QFTs) are the most successful theories in the history of physics.

Unfortunately the success and implications of QFTs are less known outside of physics (compared to e.g. string theory or general relativity).
