Not sure what to highlight here yet so for now you get this awkward in-progress bio :P
The fact that you went instantly from 4 out of 5 security to loss (in a way that you really couldn't respond at all) is BRUTAL 💀 oof

But the quilt went to the one who stayed on the Rez raising her own children, to use as a blanket as her grandma had. It's different than this as both sisters were genuinely part of the culture but one had bought in to assimilation and saw it as her past while the other kept their culture alive.

This reminds me of a book I read for school with a pair of Native American sisters trying to decide who inherits their grandma's hand-sewn quilt. One, who had moved to the city and hadn't visited in years, wanted to display it on her wall.

It was at Washington University! Though I'm sure it's happened multiple times, and it's probably pretty frustrating for him!

My family stayed at a room like this (glass shower wall, toilet still thankfully enclosed) and my parents explained it to us kids as "fancy, classy, cool, etc". We all felt like it was an interesting and cool setup, though we made extra sure to switch on the glass frosting before showering.

Yeah, it's a plan in progress but every good plan started that way. I agree that there's a long way to go making healthcare accessible, but it is an important goal. And it would make it hard to break in with a new medicine, but making a new medicine is already hard and people still do it.

this whole obsession over the price of eggs thing is so wilding to me, a person who has been spending extra for years now to get free range ethically farmed eggs. whose price hasn't gone up at all actually

I like that this is also a vegan recipe, easy to make, and uses ingredients that don't spoil. Great for the Great Depression and also for regular depression 😛

That said I often try to push back on narratives implying autistic people have an inherently worse life when so much of that *comes* from situations. Plus, just as an autist could be worse off without their job or partner, what if that job or partner would be equally worse off if the autist left?

Both of these responses make sense, and to be clear, I'm not pushing the narrative that autism *isn't* a disability. I think it's a thoughtful angle to look at not only impairment but also how easily impairment could occur if a situation changed.

It's still not easy- she'll have to figure out insurance, doctors and affording glasses, all with no money or parental support. But she knows it's possible! Plus, this is one of the reasons she struggled in school and didn't finish, and maybe if this works out, she can get back on track with that!

I work with troubled youth and one confided that when she sees busy patterns or bright lights, her vision blurs and she gets headaches. I googled and did some research, discovered these are classic astigmatism symptoms. She was so happy when I told her it could be fixed with just a pair of glasses!
