i'm like a truffle hog for these miserable pieces of shit. god they're the worst, all chewy and cloying. and no one bakes them! they appear fully formed in their plastic containers at the grocery store. disgusting morsels. i just ate 3 of them

I continue to be impressed at how the “AI” integration of spelling and grammar check within Microsoft Word actually makes for a far worse product than when I was first using spell/grammar check in *2002* as a kiddo.

A trash future per @trashfuture.bsky.social, indeed. #ai #letmedomyfuckingjob

Every ski resort should have waffles at the end of their runs. No doubt this would get tons of people into the sport. Sure as hell worked on me. ⛷️🏔️

Shooting handguns is a good way to find out just how fucking hard it is to aim compared to anything with an actual barrel.

15 feet? EZPZ.
30 feet? That's a nice glass bottle you're holding there, it would be a shame if nothing at all happened to it through an entire clip.

i tell this story every time these old photos come up but: I remember in film school one of my classmates asked what about film chemistry in the 1970s caused everything shot in NYC to look so brown and grimy and our professor was like "that wasn't the film, that's just what the air looked like here"
It's not just fdr. One of the things the epa did not long after it was formed was document the nation's pollution via photography. That can seem frivolous, but generations of Americans have no idea why the EPA was necessary. This broke a million views when we published it in 2017
This is what America looked like before the EPA cleaned it up
A snapshot from America before the impact of the EPA and the effects of rules regulating clean water and air were felt.

Drytooling at Boulder, CO’s Ice Cool tonight with friends. Ridiculous sport, both in the cool way and in the “what the hell am I doing” way. Absolutely cannot wait to go back; the gym playlist was all deep cut Daft Punk. ❄️🏔️🧗‍♀️👾

I try to keep this page for cool diseases and climbing because I like big rocks and I cannot lie (ROCKS). Gonna break this for a quick second:

Dems think that the world works like the West Wing TV show. Screw that; I want to see my senator call Donald a pussy.

Today's edition of "weird maps stumbled upon during work": the most bizarre shading scheme I've seen (in a map that could've been a list).

I get the cross-hatching. Tree rings magnified x100, less so!

“Ice climbing in Ouray during a winter storm” is not something 12-year old Dylan would’ve ever believed he’d do one day - growing up in Florida notwithstanding!

Come to think of it, neither would 18, 22, 26, or maybe even 30-year old Dylan believe it. 🏔️❄️🧗‍♀️

It’s been decades since the console wars and I know I’m saying nothing new here - yet this email header still feels like a jumpscare. 👾🎮

Take that Austin… told you Sonic would come out on Nintendo eventually…

Four years ago, my wife and I gave our five-month old kitten a bit of pizza crust, as a joke.

This is now her every single time.

Trying to make a push to get outside after work in the darkness of January - even if it’s just a small thing 😊 Went for a snowy run around Apex Park near Golden, CO! Feels nice to just “be”, regardless of what that means. 🏔️🏃

My 2025 focus is “Projects not sends” - being a little more okay with not doing things perfectly the first time. Like a lot of 90s/00s kids, I have a hard time with not mandating perfection, which means I need to fall a little more 😊 🧗‍♀️ 🏔️

Each year, I try to fill up an empty shelf on my bookshelf. It’s a fun way to visualize the year’s reading! In 2024, I filled up three shelves(?!), the most I’ve read in one year since adolescence if not ever. 84 total books! 😊 🪐📚

Final book of 2024 finished. Fascinating little novel that I like even more than my previous two reads in 2007 and 2017. An exegesis not on nihilism so much as a crashing demonstration of the power to shape one’s world, and how even if nihilism were true, it’s still a world-shaper.

“Titus Alone” often gets sidelined in Mervyn Peake’s “Gormenghast” series, but the language is still out of this world. The opening passage of escape from the castle of the previous two books is a surreal grotesque. 📚

The east summit of 13er The Citadel in Colorado’s Front Range gives me strong storybook vibes with the slightly overhanging top and igneous rock bands. (Also a good example of the crumbly nature of many of the state’s high peaks). 🏔️🧗‍♀️

This is the platonic ideal of a book cover. I’m not being ironic at all: I know exactly what to expect in content (mushrooms, foraging), exactly how the writer will write (goobery with significant depth and specificity among the anecdotes), and exactly how much fun I’ll have (loads). 🍄📚
