A wildlife photographer joked that his wife managed to capture an extraordinary photo that outdid him: a European eagle owl, one of the world's largest, perched on his camera lens.

Interesting seeing the Newton's cradle effect on the distant tyre belt when Robb's car struck the track fading belt. A lot of energy there. #indycar

Some of these classic tracks are like living things. Imola isn't getting renewed. And this place that broke hearts 30yrs ago gives us a classic.

#F1 The slop has gone from the cars this year. They don't wallow or bounce so much at high bump speeds. They looks so stiff.

Michael Schumacher giving it some pasty around a sunny Monaco in 2002. #F1 Compared to now, look how nimble the car is, how it does not wallow off the kerb strikes. For those newer to F1, the hiss/raspy sound is the cylinder cut of traction control working on corner exit.

In December, I wrote a piece about people's declining ability to process information, to distinguish fact from opinion, etc, and how this might soften us up to become overly-dependent on AI. You could read it, but this guy just summarised it in two tweets!

FIA tightens the slot-gap tolerance from 2.0mm to 0.5mm for China, with a 75kg load. All cars passed the the 2.0mm test in Melbourne. This must be quite hard if you're out of compliance on a fly-away race with just a week to sort it out.

Jim Clark, who won 2 #F1 world championships & 25 F1 GPs from 72 starts & only 49 finishes, for his Lotuses weren’t reliable, & was a quiet man off track & a genius on it, was born #OnThisDay in ’36. Pic: Lotus 33, Zandvoort, ’65, taken by Yves Debraine.

In Bahrain #OnThisDay one year ago, having taken pole position the day before, Max Verstappen led every lap of the #BahrainGP, & drove fastest lap: his 5th #F1 grand chelem. At that point I thought 2024 was going to be as one-sided as 2023, but it didn’t turn out that way.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

Not sure what to make of that #MotoGP sprint. Obviously a long way to go but the field strung out within a couple of laps. Good to see #93 back on top after so long, and yet I can't say I miss him winning everything.

On this very date 1123 years ago, St.
Mary the Younger died of a beating by her husband, who became enraged when she criticized him for not observing Lent. Remorseful, he built a cathedral to honor her and she appeared to many in visions to say that the cathedral was ok, but "he's still a shithead."

Great highlight reel from a classic GT40 at Spa, featuring day/night transition, rain, and some warts'n'all trips through the gravel. It captures the drama and atmosphere of sportscars so well.
