Today, the Japanese Ambassador addressed the National Press Club and promoted gas as an 'important energy source in the coming decades of transition'. Protestors called out this false narrative; in reality, Japan's gas agenda is locking Asia into decades of high emissions and locking out renewables.

New research from @oilchange.bsky.social: Japan has spent $5.2 billion in public funds on carbon capture. Now, it’s pushing its broken model across Southeast Asia to trap the region in fossil fuels and use it as a dumping ground for carbon pollution.

Since 2017, the Int'l Energy Agency has told the world the fossil fuel industry can reduce its emissions of toxic, planet-warming methane at little to no cost to itself. But industry keeps failing to clean up its act. Methane emissions are still rising in lockstep with production. bit.ly/47YXaVt

As of 28 August, heavily polluting industries had lodged 22 ICSID claims this year. Across all ISDS tribunals, nearly $114 billion overall had been awarded to investors as of December 2023. In the biggest payouts made so far, fossil fuel companies have been the main beneficiaries
