Greetings from Houston.

"It doesn’t make any sense. These are the people that were brought to the U.S. by the U.S. armed forces. They did not come to the U.S. illegally. They did not go across Mexico and then try to enter the United States. So, why attack this group? It's simply inexplicable."
A former Afghan National Army soldier applying for asylum in the U.S. was arrested by federal immigration agents at his Houston-area home, according to his attorney, who said the man and most of his family are being threatened with deportation.
Former Afghan soldier arrested at Houston-area home by ICE, stripped of asylum protections, attorney says
The soldier is one of at least 20,000 Afghans seeking asylum nationwide, having fled Afghanistan after aiding the U.S. military during the two-decades-long war there.

Useful research and suggestions for action in this thread.
Let’s use LinkedIn to target capitulating law firms. I’m going to list their LinkedIn pages in a thread. On LinkedIn you can comment on their posts or tag them in your own post. I can’t do this. I’m constrained by my employer (long story). If you can do it safely, PLEASE DO. 🧵👉🏻

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive.

No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief.

1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

@liccardo.house.gov where will you be?
This weekend Democratic members of Congress are holding townhalls in districts where Republicans refuse to show up.

We all need to attend these rallies.

Please reply with info on townhalls near you so we can get as many folks who care about democracy there as possible.

@liccardo.house.gov At your town hall last week, you promised that if Trump ignored court orders you would take to the streets with your constituents. Where and when should we meet you?
This is blatant defiance of the court order. It was NOT too late. When the judge issued is order, two planes were in the air, and a third took off from Texas AFTER the order.

It should be very clear to every Senate Democrat that any vote for Cloture will also be considered a vote for the bill.

People aren’t going to be tricked with procedural games.

They know exactly what is going on.

Defend Medicaid.
Vote NO on Cloture.
NO on bill.

My MOC, Sam Liccardo, telephone town hall tonight. I’ve seen no effort on his part to get the word out. Please call in tonight at 6:00 PDT. If nothing else, numbers of callers sends a message abt how much we care about him standing up for us and our country.

When TB treatment is interrupted, patients are far more likely to develop drug-resistant TB, which is a catastrophe both individually (the disease becomes harder to cure) and societally (we're allowing the bacteria millions of new opportunities to develop further resistance). Many people will die.

I think Dems are fucking up the messaging on the Hegseth nom. At least one (Duckworth?) should get on Senate floor and say, "I get it, Trump and Elon terrified you all and now you're preparing to confirm someone we all know is wildly unqualified. But know that you'll be on the hook for his fuck-ups"

This is a really great (and readable) piece on how false claims get wheels in online spaces (but it’s also applicable more broadly I reckon - to the ways in which we ‘use’ the frames gifted to us by our chosen epistemic authorities).
Discourse around misinformation doesn't always line up w/ our research team's findings re: how falsehoods actually spread in online spaces. Here, I provide a more nuanced view, describing the problem of misinformation as one of collective sensemaking gone awry: www.cip.uw.edu/2023/12/06/r...
