Farmer on the dusty prairie; a dad; a bagpiper; a school teacher; a yeoman; a Luddite; a Ukrainian-Catholic Celt. Possibly a Viking.

Trying to live in a good way.

Treaty 6 and 7.
This cactus is doing its best to keep spirits up around here.

November 5: let us remember this day Guy Fawkes, the last man to enter parliament with honest intentions.

(This is usually where some Englishman jumps in and scolds me for celebrating a terrorist Catholic.

But are we sure that disappearing the ruling class in an instant is such a bad idea?)

A very quick trip to the city yesterday gave me a chance to pick up some maté.

I haven’t had any in a long time. But in another life, I could have been very happy as a gaucho.

I don’t own a proper gourd right now, but I still have a bombilla and my Navajo sheep mug is about the right size.

Christopher Columbus actually appears in my family tree.

Not as a direct ancestor (*sigh of relief*) but he was married to my direct ancestor’s sister.

So as Columbus’ great-great-great-etc grand nephew (through marriage) I’d like to take this opportunity to say you shouldn’t celebrate the guy.

This corn was planted to make silage and it’s going to be chopped in just a couple of days.

But it’s very nearly a grain crop.

I’m starting to believe that, within a decade, we’ll be harvesting corn grain at Endiang, Alberta.

I’m actually a big fan of the altar-server’s-vestments-and-converse-shoes combo.

And then it was harvest time.

Brought to you by the best harvest equipment money could buy in 1984.

Just think, never to be glad or disappointed. Never to like anyone & get cross at him and forgive him. Never to sleep or feel cold, never to make a mistake @ have a stomach-ache & be cured from it, never to have a birthday party, drink beer, & have a bad conscience… How terrible.”
